Next month, the PGA Tour returns to Palm Beach Gardens for the Honda Classic. The event will be held at the PGA National Resort & Spa, the site of last year's event. Tiger, of course, will not be here. He never plays this event.
Several years ago, the event moved from Broward County (where Ft. Lauderdale is located) to the south of us and was hosted by the then just opening community of Mirasol Country Club. Nothing like a PGA event to bring attention to the community. Mirasol has 2 courses, the Sunrise and the Sunset. The Honda was played on the Sunrise Course until the 18th and then the played the 18th on Sunset which is a beautiful finishing hole with water in front of the tee box.
After Mirasol was substantially built out, the Honda moved across the street to PGA National Resort & Spa.
Jack Nicklaus did some remodeling and made a little 3 hole area they call the Bear Trap.
The event is always good for the Palm Beach Gardens economy and this is really the golf capital of America with 5 courses at PGA National, 2 at Mirasol, 3 at BallenIsles County Club, Seminole Golf Club, Lost Tree Village, Frenchman's Reserve, 2 at Frenchman's Creek, the Ritz-Carlton, the Bear's Club, 2 at Admirals Cove and 3 at Jonathan's Landing.
