Philodendron "Xanadu"

Yesterday I took these shots of one of our most popular bedding plants, Philodendron "Xanadu".
The Philodendron family belongs to a group of plants commonly called Aroids.  They are from Central and South America. This includes the whole family of Elephant Ear type plants including Alocasias, Xanathasomas, Philodendrons, Anthuriums and Caladiums.  They are known as indoor and outdoor plants for the ease of care and beautiful tropical foilage.  The most well-known outdoors is the Selloum although it gets quite large and expansive.

These plants are typically used in small masses and provide contrast to tightly trimmed or sheared hedge material.  When properly fertilized, the petioles and center vein will turn deep red color.
