Fannie Mae offers to pay closing costs if...
....you buy one of the 50,000 foreclosed homes they own!
Here's the whole story from the Florida Association of Realtors"
Fannie Mae, the largest provider of residential home funding in the United States, announced on Friday that it would start to pay closing costs for buyers of foreclosed homes in its inventory. Buyers of qualified properties will get up to 3.5 percent in closing costs or an equivalent amount for the purchase of new appliances.
Fannie wants to clear out the nearly 50,000 properties it has in inventory – listed on HomePath.com, the Web site created by Fannie Mae last year to sell the growing number of foreclosed homes. The offer is available to any owner-occupant who closes on the purchase of a property listed on HomePath.com before May 1, 2010.
Applicable properties can be found on HomePath.com, along with property descriptions, photographs, community and school information, and more. In addition, some Fannie Mae-owned properties are eligible for special HomePath Mortgage and HomePath Renovation Mortgage financing, which offers qualified homebuyers the ability to purchase with as little as 3 percent down.“Attracting qualified buyers to the market and reducing inventory of vacant homes is critical to stabilizing neighborhoods and helping the market recover,” Terry Edwards, executive vice president for credit portfolio management, said in a statement.
With choices like this and interest rates below 5%, why wouldn't you buy a house??

Jupiter Farms Lifestyle Continued
Before the big box stores came to Jupiter, we had a lot of small stores supplying specialty items. I used to stop in an old-fashioned stationary store and chat with the owners. When Staples and Office Depot came to town, they went out of business. In fact, my boys don't know what a small store like that is like.
There is a small plumbing store that has somehow hung on and they have a sign posted that says, "Bought it at Home Depot? Take it back to them".
But in Jupiter Farms, one small shop thrives.
Jupiter Hardware, located in the Sierra Square Shopping Center is the local, go-to store for Jupiter Farms residents who don't want to drive into Home Depot. They have a little bit of everything, and personalized service that you just don't get in the big stores. You can get it at HD, but you just have to go at the right time. Jupiter Hardware also sells propane and delivers salt for water softeners like we have in the Farms.
I patronize them every chance I get....like today when I bought a replacement filter for my water system. You can find the post about changing the filter in the blog archives. I posted it on Thursday.

Jupiter Farms Publix: From villian to hero

Before the Jupiter Farms shopping center was built, most of the residents of the Farms traveled several miles eastward into Jupiter and shopped at the Chasewood Winn-Dixie. So, when it was announced that Publix was planning to move into the Farms there was an outcry from the citizens that a Publix would ruin the neighborhood.
Our local group, the Jupiter Farms Residents (http://jupiterfarmsresidents.com/) is an outspoken group who defend the Farms lifestyle and they petitioned hard to have this Publix fit into to the community feel. Later, the took on McDonald's and were also successful. The Farms restaurant looks different from all other McDonald's.

Once villified, Publix and the Jupiter Shopping Center have become mainstays of the Farms life and now you don't really need to "go into town" unless you want.

Jupiter Farms rainy day
We are having another rainy day here in Jupiter Farms. Normally, winter is our driest season of the year, but we have had many rainy days this season.
I'm not sure what is causing so much rain, but we need the rain to bring the level of Lake Okeechobee up for the upcoming hot months. I know the bass fisherman along the Lake will love all the rain. Another plus is that when the water levels get too high, the Water Management District will open the c-18 canal and release water into the Loxahatchee River. When they do this, a lot of small bait fish get washed through the dam and the snook on the downriver side have a feast.
Snook have migrated up into the rive this time of year to seek warmer water and love the easy meal. This is why you will see fisherman picking up special plugs in the fishing shops and Wal-Mart.
