Nobel Prize Winner Named Scientific Director for Max Planck Society
A German biomedical research group set to open a U.S. institute in Palm Beach County has selected a Nobel Prize winner to become the institute's scientific director. The Munich-based Max Planck Society said this week that physicist Bert Sakmann will join the group's research campus in Jupiter later this summer. The 66-year-old won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1991. Sakmann will work to develop a three-dimensional atlas of the brain that will lay the foundation for future research on Alzheimer's and other brain diseases.
