Jupiter Farms: Beacon Baptist Church is almost ready

Jupiter Farms is getting another church.   Beacon Baptist Church which has been holding services on Center Street in the heart of Jupiter since 1956 in a building built by Jupiter pioneers in 1924.  As the congregation continued to grown under Pastor Jim Blalock, they built a new auditorium but even that proved to be insufficient as the numbers continued to climb.  So, the church purchased 20 acres on Indiantown Road in Jupiter on the corner of Haney Lane and began plans for a new church.

The church had to jump through a lot of hoops with the county, as one would expect, and they got input from the neighbors and the Jupiter Farms residents.  There were concerns about traffic and lighting, especially since there is seating for around 800 people and they plan to build a gym to attract youth.

Finally, Beacon Baptist is ready to open and the first service should be in 2 weeks.

Did you think I was kidding about parasites?

I just posted my comments on class action suits, then went over to the blog to make sure the post was correct.  In the AdSense column on the right was a link to join the Mattel Toy Company class action suit.   The text reads:  You May Be Entitled To Join The Class Action Lawsuit Against Mattel

See for yourself:  https://www.mattelsettlement.com/prod/?gclid=CNycgJa91p8CFQhinAod228d1A&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Justice for the injured is a laughably funny phrase.  Here's the text from one of the other ads:

Injured? How Much Is Owed To You? Get Paid Fast? Free Legal Review

There is no such thing as an accident anymore.  If you don't like what happened to you today...sue somebody!  Have you seen the TV ad for   WhoCanISue.com??

Parasites...why I don't participate in class action lawsuits

So, in today's mail was another, in what is a seeminly unending stream, of invitations to join a class action lawsuit.  This time against Dell.

Now, I haven't purchased a Dell Computer for about 5 years.  It was a little late arriving so they sent me some speakers to make up for my trouble.  The computer works fine.  My son spends too much time on it.  So, what is the problem?  The answer is nothing!

I read an expose in Forbes one time on these class action suits and they are nothing more than manufactured claims by trial attorneys to generate fees.  They (trial lawyers) are even sueing companies that don't make the earnings they thought they would.  What's worse, is that if there is a settlement all legal costs are recovered and a 40% fee is taken before the remaining scraps are divided amongs the named plantiffs in the suit. Or to rephrase that:  We will take 40% as our fee, then recover all our costs then divide the remaining money among what could be thousands of people who have been conned into joining the class action suit.

I know, when the opportunity to join the suit arrives people say, well why not?  Maybe I will get some money out of it.  This is why America has 20 times the number of attorneys that Japan has.   And most people are not aware that the trial lawyers (we used to call them ambulance chasers) are one of the biggest political contributors so tort reform will never happen.

When McDonald's pays $ 2 million dollars to a woman who didn't know the coffee was hot and then spilled it in her lap....or when Home Depot pays $ 90,000 to a woman who saw a snake in the garden center for her "mental distress", who do you think pays for this?  It ain't Mickey D, baby!  When you buy that McChicken sandwich, please also make a contribution to the __________  Law Firm who represented the woman mentioned above.

So back to the story.  All my other mail is opened.  The class action lawsuit invitation gets tossed right into the trash unopened.

Jupiter Island Condos on the Intracoastal Waterway

On Jupiter Island live some of the most famous people around.  Of course, Tiger Woods, but also Alan Jackson and the Moen family (of faucet fame).  But to the south of their mansions are some fabulous, waterfront condos.

Pretty nice location wouldn't you say?

I was in Tequesta the other day taking some photographs for clients coming to the area and when I came around the back to the waterfront side, found this view.  At this point, Jupiter Island is very narrow and most of the units on the higher floors will have views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Abacoa Town Center

 ABACOA TOWN CENTER

When the Di Guardiola company built Abacoa, they included something for everybody.  There is the Abacoa Golf Club, Roger Dean Stadium, Antigua Live/Work, Florida Atlantic University and the Cobb Theaters.  All of this was centered around a downtown area where people could meet, great and eat...and then live right above the shops and stores.  The picture above shows the Main Street in the Abacoa Town Center.

While I was taking these pictures from my car this couple walked across in front of me.

One example of this idea is shown below.  Its Rooney's Pub. In the condos above the shops, many students from the Honors Program at Florida Atlantic University reside.  In addition to the usual comings and goings, the Town Center features an annual Feast of Little Italy, Arti-Gras in the spring and a weekly Farmer's Market.  Abacoa was built on land originally owned by Mecca Farms and I used to take my boys to pick vegetables there when they were small.  Abacoa, although technically in Jupiter, is a town unto itself with all sorts of stores and shopping, sports and preserve areas with walking trails.
